The Following Year
Yvonne Divans Hutchinson

I kept the same students for the year following this class anatomy. During school year 2002-2003, the students continued to develop their talents in academic discourse. This page includes some examples of student work showing the students' considerable gifts. Click the images to watch video clips.

Group Poem: Quoting Shakespeare

The students were each responsible for a dramatic reading of a poem citing all the phrases in everyday language that originated in the work of Shakspeare.

Video project: A Lesson Before Dying

This film was created entirely by students, adapted from Ernest Gaines' book. The students developed the screenplay, rehearsed, designed their own costumes, and did all the editing and post-production.

Guest Lecturer: California Poet Laureate Quincy Troupe

We were fortunate to have Poet Laureate Troupe visit our classroom to share his poetry and converse with the students about the art of language.

Theatrical project: scenes from Macbeth with actors' notes

To support the students' reading of Macbeth, they were required to do a character study and write up actors' notes showing their insights into their characters and scenes. The performance was done in the school auditorium.
